Who is this course for?

This course is for yoga and movement practitioners who want to deepen their understanding of sequencing/programming in order to effectively work towards handstands, splits, and backbends. This course will teach you how to program/sequence your practice and give you a deeper understanding of functional anatomy and injury prevention. This includes:

  • Discourse and Integration

    Discourse on sequencing, programming, injury prevention and functional anatomy interwoven into the practices, which range from 7 - 60+ minutes.

  • Practice and Skill Building

    Shorter practice videos that focus on specific body parts, skills, or techniques.

    Longer workshop videos that integrate the information into full length flows and practices.

    30hrs Yoga Alliance Continued Education (for those with a 200hr training)

Irene Pappas

Irene Pappas is a multifaceted entrepreneur who has built a small empire over the past 10 years. Not only is she an international yoga teacher, holistic health coach, NASM personal trainer and 500hr E-RYT, but she has also run multiple businesses and started a non-profit from the ground up. Her business expertise originally came from her bachelor's degree in fashion retail management, but has become more refined and practical from personal experience as well as trial and error. She has amassed a large following on Instagram which allows her to promote herself and her events, which have included yoga teacher trainings, retreats, lectures and workshops, as well as online classes. Irene has mentored and advised many yoga teachers and studio owners over the years with her ability to problem solve and business savvy mindset.

Marie Belle Pérez Rivera, Ph.D.

Marie Belle Pérez Rivera, PhD, is an educator, artist, writer, community leader, globally recognized yoga teacher, expert in Somatic and Embodiment Practices for Reducing Stress, Developing Resilience, and Healing Trauma, and a Latina health coach and small business owner. She is an anthropologist of movement, teacher and practitioner of yoga, mindfulness, and critical thinking throughout the United States, Caribbean, Latin America, Spain, and Bali. Marie Belle has two Bachelor’s degrees from North Carolina State University (Psychology and Communication), a Graduate Certificate (Women’s Studies), a Master’s degree (Biological and Developmental Psychology), and a Doctorate degree (Psychology: Social and Emotional Development) from Virginia Tech with a focus on Women as Active Constructors of Knowledge. Through her work, Marie Belle offers public yoga classes, workshops, teacher trainings, private and group coaching, business mentorship, and transformational retreats in Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, and Bali. In addition, Marie Belle is the founder of Roots Love Yoga, a Latina woman owned small business and creative multidisciplinary project with the purpose of uniting, educating, and inspiring teachers, artists, movers, intellectuals, healers, and world travelers. She has been featured in The Washington Post, People are Awesome, Mantra Magazine, Telemundo, Sweat Magazine, Peace Revolution, Active Life DC, and others. Marie Belle currently resides in Washington, DC with her 90-pound Silver Lab, Zion Zeus.

Ian MacLeod

Co-Founder and Head Coach of Nirvana Strength. A lifelong learner turned educator, Ian is passionate about supporting people achieve their physical and mental goals. At Nirvana Strength, Ian is redefining what health and wellness can look like, holistically. Through mindful, performance-based mobility training with an emphasis on recovery and injury prevention, Ian is a master at supporting individuals to get their bodies to peak performance. With mindfulness and health at the core, his innovative approach also ensures that the mind is worked as much as the body. As such, Ian has proven success in creating adaptable and individualized plans for ultimate wellness. As with all of his clients, Ian continues to challenge himself to expand his studies, his practice, and the various attributes that better equip him to prepare for the unknown challenges and obstacles that nature and life inevitably present.

  • Is this course approved by Yoga Alliance?

    Yes. This is a Yoga Alliance accredited course at the 30 Hour level and exceeds all standards set forth by Yoga Alliance. Due to Covid-19, Yoga Alliance has approved online trainings through the end of the year 2021.

  • I'm new to (yoga // handstands // body weight fitness), is this course right for me?

    Yes. This course is for anyone wanting to deepen their practice, learn how to program and sequence for themselves and their classes, and open to personalized feedback. All levels are welcome. This course is for anyone willing to think critically, open their mind, and strengthen their practice along the way.

  • What are the dates for the courses?

    The course is On Demand, you may begin whenever you want. You will have access to all of the content for three months and can begin as soon as you are ready. You are welcome to work at your own pace with both video and written feedback. There is no required timeline, although we offer 1, 2, and 3-month maps to help you organize.

  • Will I be able to teach yoga after this course?

    According to Yoga Alliance, teachers need a minimum of 200- Hours in order to teach. This course is considered CONTINUING EDUCATION and does not stand alone as a Yoga Teacher Training. This course is accredited as Continuing Education at the 30 Hour Level. If you are interested in a 200- Hour YTT, Roots Love Yoga offers a different On Demand course for $850.

  • Do I need to be a yoga teacher/ practitioner to join this course?

    Not at all. Everyone can benefit from this course and the various approaches. All disciplines and interests welcome.

  • I prefer in person classes. Is online really worth it?

    Yes. Given COVID-19, most of our lives have been restructured and we are learning that we can learn online just as well as in person. We are doing our best to share our practices, create community, and have fun along the way. We're in this together.

  • How does this program work?

    Roots Love Yoga (Virtual YTT + Continuing Education) combines the convenience of an on-demand training with the functionality of personalized feedback and live practice opportunities. You may begin the course whenever you want. The content is yours for 3 months, with help available along the way. This is a professionally organized course with easy to follow videos, worksheets, audios, etc.

  • How do I graduate?

    After completing the course requirements, assignments, and submitting practice videos for personalized feedback, one may email us for a Certificate of Completion. Graduation is 100% based on your understanding of practice and participation.

  • What if I don't practice yoga?

    No problem. One can still deepen their practice and understanding through this course.
